ABOUT TQ

TQ was born in Glasgow in 1966 and started working in the Torquil operating the Steadicam with Aaton cameramotion picture industry in 1983 as a camera assista
nt, working his way up through the ranks of the camera department to become a Director of Photography in 1992. Since becoming a DoP, Torquil has worked on numerous movies such as “Pilgrim“ starring Ray Liotta, "The Bruce“ starring Oliver Reed and “Iron Cross“ starring Roy Schieder and Helmut Berger. He holds an MSc in cinematography/film production from Napier University, Edinburgh.


Between 2003 and 2007 Torquil worked extensively w
orldwide as a front line Steadicam rigged with Red. 3 Wise WomenFPA cameraman for international press organisations such as AP, AFP, BBC, CNN, CH4, ITN, NTV,SNTV, and WTN, covering various conflicts such as Kosovo, the Afghan War, 9/11 WTC, the Gulf War, the Pakistan earthquake, and the Lebanon/Israeli War.


In 2008 Torquil hung up his flack jacket and has been based between Ireland and London. In 2008/09/10 his photographs have been published in Outsider Magazine, The Irish Times and The Sunday Business Post and he has worked as a DoP on RTE and TV3 drama and reality shows. In 2010 he has operated Steadicam on films such as Treasure Island,3 Wise Women, The Best Years and Roadkill and on music videos for JayZ.

Torquil is as happy behind a stills camera as he is operating his motion picture Steadicam, and his 20 years of experience behind the lens brings a depth to any image which often belies the budget available.
